New A.A.A. Pass/Fail Selection System

Previously, each of the A.A.A. Podcast hosts choose 5-6 anime per season.  That host would then watch the entire series to conduct a solo review.  Under this method more anime was being covered at the expense of discussion between the hosts.

The A.A.A. Podcast has decided to change the system in an effort to promote more engaging discussion and bring more thoughts on each show reviewed.  While our new system will result in less anime being covered per season we hope that it will yield more inspired discussion during the actual reviews.

Current System:
Podcast hosts give short 3-4 minute impressions on a show after 3 episodes are completed. After the entire show is done a solo review is performed on the podcast. This allows for early impressions on a show and a mass number of reviews to be done.

New System:
Podcast hosts will still do impressions on their selected shows but will pass/fail all the shows at the end of each impression. Podcast hosts will work together to pass only 8 total shows each season. Ideally, these will be the 8 shows that are deemed to be the most worth watching during a season. At the end of the season, these shows will be reviewed, 1 anime per podcast episode, in a much longer, 40+ minute group discussion between at least 3 people. This allows for a more fluid, discussion based review and less of a solo effort. Hopefully, this improves the listening experience.

Now a season is 13 weeks and at 1 review an episode, 8 anime is not enough to get through an entire season. There would be 5 empty episodes. Therefore, for weeks 3-7 of the anime season, the podcast hosts will only do impressions on their anime. Because failed anime will not receive reviews and therefore, won’t receive as much coverage, impressions will be extended to about 10 minutes in length allowing for a reasonable coverage of the show despite it failing. These impression only shows will likely have 5 total impressions for a total of 40-50 minutes, rather than doing a single 40-50 minute discussion review.
