Western Manga aka Comic Books

Postby alittletootony » Mon Jun 27, 2011 1:24 pm

I wasn't sure where would be best to post a thread about comic books, but I suppose the manga section would fit.
As much as I enjoy Japanese manga, western comics will always hold a special place in my heart.
As of late, I've been reading "Y: The Last Man". I'm about 11 issues in and...wow. Just wow. I'm hooked.
So, what're some of your favorite comics and/or what have you been reading lately.

Well right now I'm reading Marvel's Fear Itself and I have to say Its pretty good. my favorite comics would Have to be in the Batman series. You can even go back into the 1980's and read The killing joke & a death in the family, those 2 comics did a lot for the Batman series. I also enjoyed the batman beyond comics.

Also If you like more mature comics Heavy Metal dose some great Graphic novels and their artwork is awesome. The art kinda reminds me of when I was a child watching Bob Ross paint on the TV, I would just stand their in awe looking at his beautiful art that he created in front of my eyes.

Oh and if you never read The Sandman do it now!

Walking Dead is my 2nd favorite comic series. My gf isn't too big on supers so i showed her Walking Dead and she's hooked on it. There's also a great bi-monthly comic by Brian Michael Bendis called Scarlet.

That aside, Captain America has always been my favorite comic book hero. Only Cap (Steve Rogers anyway) has stood for true American ideals and gone against the government in times where he felt they were infringing on American rights.

I gotta say, I haven't been reading too many NEW comic books recently, but I do have a lot of collections/compendiums.

Fantastic 4, What If?, The Walking Dead, all those and more I love.

BUT CIVIL WAR CAN GO TO HELL AND ONE MORE DAY CAN BURN IN MEPHISTO'S FIRES.

I love American comic books and have for as far back as I can remember. Green Lantern, Green Arrow, Hawkman, Flash and Batman from DC side and The Avengers, Captain America, Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, Thor and X-Men on the Marvel side of things. I also really liked Elfquest and Alien Legion. Most of the mainstream books I've been buying since the 1970's but my collections of said titles start in the 1960's. My oldest comic at the moment is a Whiz Comic featuring Captain Marvel (Shazam) from December of 1941.
