Hated it. The fight scenes looked really cool, but the story was uninteresting and the characters were unbearable. Way too melodramatic, even for me. and I LOVE melodrama. It' sure to yield some awesome AMVs, but that's all it's really worth to me.

Absolutelly hated it...it was cool looking but the characters annoyed me and the story was BORING!

It was interesting if you are able to dissect and accept the pieces individually instead of the whole thing. I love Supercell, so there is that. The background and antagonists looks amazing. The black rock shooter realm was what got me to continue watching it. But I dropped that anime after a few episodes because the characters from the human realm were not of my taste. But I watched it in reverse order, and it was not bad. I enjoyed the last couple of episodes.
If the main characters were non- human, I might not have dropped it.

I though it was awful. I really don't see why people like it so much. I give it butt/10.

Maybe the problem is there no place in anime which explains how black rock shooter world relates to the real world

would it have helped if you watched the OVA beforehand or is it just that confusing...

no it would not I have seen the OVA and at first it only makes thing more confusing
