FZ 18. The final few minutes were great (if long overdue) character building for Kiritsugu. Really enjoyed seeing his thought process, and how it might still affect him today. Buuuut...

I don't think we were suppose to feel too sorry for her, but she did present a nice dilemma for our young Kerry: Does he repent for his past mistake or ignore it? He chose to repent, and created a bigger mistake. It's her lines to him at the beach that's crucial in this episode. This episode and the next is vital into knowing Kiritsugu's character, and to understand how he managed to have such a distorted sense of heroism. This is as filler as Madoka ep10.

And I doubt a person with little education knows the complication of drug testing, let along something that's out of the realm of science. It's common knowledge for us that drugs has to go through animal testing first, but remember that she's from a tropical island. What's her education level like? Did she learn much about science and medicine? We should instead focus on what drives her to make that rash decision. She volunteered herself to be the test subject to prove to the village that the father's research isn't evil, well sadly it is evil. If anything, the father is also a lot to be blamed for not warning her regarding to the potential lethal side effects of the drugs.

Also, how do you know that the animals don't have different reactions to the drugs than to human? this is magic we are talking about here.

I just find it funny how you two focused on Shirley instead of Kiritsugu.

[spoiler=]She is the fathers' assistant she must have some basic know how if she was trying to make her own immortal flowers. She is there when the father sits Kiritsugu down and tells him he is too young that it's not a game and can be deadly.
Kiritsugu made no mistakes the only ambiguous move is that he could have killed the girl to keep it from spreading, but you can't ask that from a 10-year old and that moral dilemma is with him to this day. He shouldn't have killed his dad, but you could say he was not in his right mind. let's see whether he will see that as a mistake.
she volunteered for noting she stole it and tested it on herself. there was an ep about that on house.
I don't see how the research is evil so the guy wants to be a vamp.
lets say you don't know if animals have different reactions to the drugs than human there is a master magus you could have asked and maybe wondered why is he still test running it on flowers and if you don't like the fact that he wants to hog the immortality don't take the drugs before they are done.
when you are creating a cure for a deadly virus you don't test it by infecting yourself to see it the cure works. you don't need an education some common sense will do.
we focused on Shirley instead of Kiritsugu because she is loud and kiritsugu and his dad have 0 personality + its a flashback and she is kiritsugus trigger.
as for "to prove to the village that the father's research isn't evil" that's a lie she wanted immortality. you don't prove to bunch of superstitious villagers that you are not doing the devils work by showing them that you are breaking the laws of nature with magic. they cry evil when for all they know a guy makes glow in the dark flowers. what will they say if you tell them that you have made yourself immortal ?[/spoiler]

Fired up the DVR which caught Deadman Wonderland and Casshern Sins for me. I like the dub so far for Deadman Wonderland, the song's a bit off and Ganta seems a bit less whiny than I remembered from when I watched it last year. Promising start.

Still need to watch Casshern Sins and see if I like it. Heard good things. And yes, all three cable boxes were set to Cartoon Network overnight in case that actually helps with ratings and stuff.
